The NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE Workshop

Why The Workshop

The workshop is a first-of-its-kind attempt to merge a film production and a social justice initiative into one mutually beneficial collaborative experience.

The workshop was designed to help parents who deal with the trauma of child/parent separation and then include them in film about the subject. Our measure of success was gauged by the people we were intending to help.

All of the background cast in Never Can Say Goodbye are parents who came forward to be seen.

About The Workshop

  • What is drama therapy?

Drama therapy is the use of drama/theatre processes to achieve the therapeutic goals of symptom relief, emotional and physical integration, and personal growth. It's ideal for people dealing with the inevitable stress and shame of parent/child separation.

  • How do we use drama therapy?

The 3-session workshop is meant to be a stand-alone aspect of the production that can continue once the project is completed. We want to spread the therapy across to country to help as many people as possible.

  • How are the workshop and film related?

After completing the workshop, the participants were invited to appear in the film as themselves. The workshop participants comprise the background cast of the story where their presence offers authenticity and a chance to be seen. Lead Actress, Crystal Lucas-Perry, participated in the workshop and worked closely with the group.

There are thousands of parents around the country who could benefit from this process. Help us to create NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE workshops all over the country.
